Voter Eligibility and Registration
The Annual District Meeting on the school district budget and Board of Education member election - is held annually on the third Tuesday in May. Polls are open from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm. in each of the five elementary schools in the District. Registered voters may vote by machine at the elementary school serving their attendance area.
Eligible community residents must be registered to vote. To find out if you are registered to vote, you may contact the Westchester County Board of Elections at 995-5700 or Carole LaColla, District Clerk, at 241-6011. If you are registered to vote in local or national elections, you are automatically registered to vote in School District Elections. However, if you have not voted in the past four years, your voter registration would be marked inactive and you are required to re-register to vote.
Please note that the deadline to register in the schools is five days prior to the election.
If a registered voter believes s/he may be out of town on the day of the vote, s/he may complete an application for absentee ballot and return to the District Clerk no later than seven days prior to the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter; or the day before the vote if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Ballots may only be delivered to the voter.

Board Member Candidate Information
Bedford Central School District Board Election is for specific seats. This means that a candidate running for school board must file the petition for the specific seat for which he or she is running. The seats are designated by the current encumbent. For the May 2017 elections, there are two seats whose terms end on June 30, 2017; and for which candidates may choose to run.
All candidates must have the following qualifications:
§ Be able to read and write
§ Be a qualified voter of this district (which means a citizen of the
§ Be and have been a legal resident of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year prior to the election
§ May not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding year
§ May not reside with another member of the same school board as a member of the same family
§ May not be a current employee of the school board when the term of office begins
§ May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office
In accordance with Section 2018 of the State Education Law, nominating petitions for this election require the signature of at least 88 people, which represents 2% of 4449 individuals who voted in the previous annual election. To identify a qualified signature, it must be legible. Please ask each signer to also PRINT his or her name, and the residence should be listed by location, not mailing address (i.e.,
Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the School District; must be signed by two percent of the 4449 voters (88 signatures) who voted in the previous election; must state the residence of each signer; must be filed in the Office of the District Clerk in the Administration Building, Fox Lane Campus, Route 172, Bedford, New York, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on or before Monday, April 17, 2017; must state the name and residence of the candidate; and must describe the specific vacancy for which the candidate is nominated, including the length of the term of office and the name of the last incumbent.
The filing deadline for nomination petitions is 5:00 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017. Petitions should be brought to the District Clerk in the Central Office.
As required by State Education Law, Section 2032, a drawing by lot for position on the voting ballot for each seat shall be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 10:00 a.m. in the District Office. In the event any candidate is not present in person or is not represented by a person designated in a written proxy, the District Clerk is authorized to act as proxy.
All candidates running for the Board of Education are required to file Campaign Expenditure and Contribution Statements on April 17, May 11, and June 5, 2017.
When seats are contested, all candidates will be expected to participate in a Candidates Forum, the date for which has not yet been designated.
