Voter Eligibility and Registration

The Annual District Meeting on the school district budget and Board of Education member election - is held annually on the third Tuesday in May.  Polls are open from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm. in each of the five elementary schools in the District.  Registered voters may vote by machine at the elementary school serving their attendance area.

Eligible community residents must be registered to vote.  To find out if you are registered to vote, you may contact the Westchester County Board of Elections at 995-5700 or Carole LaColla, District Clerk, at 241-6011.  If you are registered to vote in local or national elections, you are automatically registered to vote in School District Elections. However, if you have not voted in the past four years, your voter registration would be marked inactive and you are required to re-register to vote.

Please note that the deadline to register in the schools is five days prior to the election.

If a registered voter believes s/he may be out of town on the day of the vote, s/he may complete an application for absentee ballot and return to the District Clerk no later than seven days prior to the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter; or the day before the vote if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Ballots may only be delivered to the voter.

Please make note of the following mandated timeline information:

  • Tuesday May 9, 2017 is the deadline for application submission if the ballot will be mailed to you
  • Monday May 15, 2017 is the deadline for application submission if the ballot will be hand delivered to you.
  • All ballots must be delivered personally to voter. 
  • ALL COMPLETED BALLOTS MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE DISTRICT CLERK’S OFFICE BY 5:00 P.M. ON TUESDAY, MAY 16, 2017 in order to be counted in the vote tally.

May 16, 2017 Ballot Information

The May 16, 2017 Ballot will contain two propositions and two Board of Education seats as follows:

PROPOSITION NO. 1 - BUDGET (proposition will be finalized on April 19, 2017)

“Shall the sum of $ 129,072,250 be appropriated to meet the estimated expenditures for school purposes of the Bedford Central School District for the fiscal year 2017-2018, and shall that same sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be raised by a tax on taxable property of the school district?         


That in all subsequent elections, vacancies on the Board of Education of the Bedford Central School District shall not be considered separate specific seats, the elections to fill vacancies on the Board of Education of the Bedford Central School District shall be at-large and the nominating petitions shall not describe any specific vacancy upon the Board of Education for which a candidate is nominated. 


TRUSTEE SEAT: There are TWO seats on which you may vote

Bedford Central School District Board Election is for specific seats. This means that a candidate running for school board must file the petition for the specific seat for which he or she is running.  The seats are designated by the current incumbent.  For the May 2017 elections, there are two seats whose terms end on June 30, 2017: the seat currently held by Andrew Bracco and the seat currently held by Edward Reder.
