MKES Cornerstone Celebration
Members of the Mt. Kisco community marked the 100th birthday of the building that is now Mt. Kisco Elementary School at the Cornerstone Celebration on Saturday, May 12. Festivities included the local Fife and Drum Corps, a flag raising, cheerleaders, and tours of the school, which included a "museum" of photos, maps, and artifacts, as well as the garden on the site of the old high school tennis court.
Artifacts were lent by community members, including members of the Mt. Kisco Historical Society. Over the past month, students interviewed alums, including senior citizens who attended high school - and some who attended all 12 grades - at what used to be the Mt. Kisco Public School/Mt. Kisco High School. Yearbooks and photos were displayed and videotapes of interviews were played. This was a wonderful way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our school.
The Mount Kisco Elementary School Community Garden Wins an Earth Day Award!
The Mount Kisco Elementary School Community Garden was recognized by Westchester County Environmental Facilities and Parks Departments and the Friends of Westchester County Parks and was the recipient of the 2012 Earth Day Award! Specifically, the garden is being recognized for exceptional leadership, initiative and voluntary work that promotes environmental conservation efforts within a school.
“Congratulations on the Earth Day award to be presented to the Mount Kisco Elementary School Community Garden. You folks have lots of fans around the county.”.. Dennis J. Power, Director of Program Development Earth Day Westchester 2012 was held at the Kensico Dam Plaza on Sunday, April 22. This annual celebration has a farmers' market, live music, raffle prizes, and environmental exhibits and education for homes, businesses and schools. However, the highlight of the day’s festivities is always the presentation of the county’s Sustainability/Recycling Awards for environmental achievements.
