The Hillside Program is an alternative secondary school program, sponsored by the Bedford Central School District. Hillside is a learning community that includes teachers, aides, couselors, students and their families. Students are recognized as individuals with varying learning styles. The Hillside community believes that all students can be successful if the focus is on their academic, personal, and social strengths. As an alternative program striving to meet each student's individual needs, we follow a set of guiding principles: - To offer community activities that enrich students' intellectual, social, and emotional well-being.
- To serve students through innovative programming and creative teaching methodologies.
- To afford students the opportunities to develop and acquire the skills necessary to meet the academic standards during high school.
- To provide all students a unique educational environment that is safe, conducive to learning, and to equip them with the skills needed to achieve personal success.
- To provide individual as well as group counseling in an effort to further support students' emotional and social growth.
Students may apply to the Hillside Program by referral from the high school Learning Resource Team or The Committee on Special Education and by the recommendation of their guidance counselor.
