Dr. Robert Glass, Superintendent of Schools
Dr. Rob Glass joins BCSD after serving as superintendent in the Eastchester Union Free School District, where he focused on working with the community to build a strategic vision for the future of teaching and learning. Prior to Eastchester, Rob served for nine years as superintendent of the Bloomfield Hills Schools in suburban Detroit. While in Bloomfield Hills, Rob engaged the community to build consensus around the design and construction of an innovative high school model. Dr. Glass and his team also championed intensive staff development around diversity, equity and inclusion. Dr. Glass was honored to be named Michigan Superintendent of the Year in 2017 by the Michigan Association of School Administrators.
Prior to serving in Bloomfield Hills, Dr. Glass led the Dexter (MI) Community Schools from 2008 – 2010, and before that, had the pleasure of working in the Birmingham (MI) Public Schools for a total of six years; first as Principal at Quarton Elementary School, and later moving into central office to fill the role as Birmingham’s Executive Director of Instruction. During this time Rob received the Worth McClure Award by the American Association of School Administrators, which is awarded to six top graduate students nationally.
Prior to living and working in metro-Detroit, the earlier part of Rob’s career in educational leadership took place in the beautiful regions of Northern and Central Michigan. He worked as an elementary principal in Suttons Bay and Vestaburg Community Schools, and before becoming a public school principal, taught fourth and fifth grades in Hale (MI) where he also coached middle school girls basketball.
Rob’s first degree was in Telecommunication, with the intention of pursuing a career in television production. However, after spending five years working with high school students and managing the production studio at Birmingham Groves High School, he soon discovered a passion for education and decided to pursue teaching as a career.
Dr. Glass holds a PhD in Educational Leadership from Oakland University, an MA in Education Administration from Central Michigan University, an MAT in Teaching from Wayne State University, and a BA in Telecommunication from Michigan State University.
Rob is married to Dr. Cynthia Glass, who serves as Vice President of Human Resources for SUNY’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT.) Rob and Cynthia are blessed to have four grown children, one daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.
Rob is excited about joining the BCSD, and looks forward to meeting and working with the entire school and district community.
