How can I get more involved with West Patent Elementary School?
Please visit the Committees link on the WPESA website and contact the Chair of the committee you are interested in volunteering. Attend a WPESA meeting to find out more about events taking place, and opportunities for you to help out. There are many events and activities that require little time commitment and/or allow for you to do the work at home on your own schedule.
I am new to the area and want to meet other moms?
Well first off, welcome to West Patent and to the neighborhood. Be sure to sign up and receive our weekly WPESA E-Comm's for dates and locations. Email email@example.com with your name and your children's grades. Volunteering with WPESA is another great way to meet fellow WPES moms.
Am I allowed to bring a treat in to my child's class to celebrate his/her birthday?
Yes, birthdays are celebrated in class once a month, usually at the end of the month. The Class Parent will contact the parents of all birthday children for the month and coordinate who is bringing in what. Keep in mind that there may be children in class with food allergies so each class may have specific guidelines on what can be brought in.
Can my child bring his/her snow pants to school for recess?
Children are allowed to bring their snow clothes (pants, boots, hats, etc.) to school. If they are prepared with this clothing and can independently put on/take off their snow apparel, they will be allowed to play in the snow during recess. Please make sure all apparel has your child's name on them.
How do I contact the school?

What is the best way to communicate with my child's teacher?
Please ask your child's teacher regarding the best way to contact him/her (voice mail, e-mail, etc.). You may always call the main office and leave a message.
How will I know when school is closed or delayed for emergency reasons or inclement weather?
You should listed to the local radio stations and/or check the district web site (www.bcsdny.org) to find out if there is a school closing or delay. The decision to close or delay school is typically made by 6:00 AM. Families will also receive an automated call from the School Messenger system.
