Heading into Summer - How to Keep the Learning Going!

Dear Families,

Thank you so much for your ongoing commitment and support of teaching and learning throughout this school year. We are so proud of all that your children have accomplished. We know the summer brings new opportunities for learning and growth. Please continue to support your child’s learning as we turn the page on another school year.

Preparing for Summer Learning 2026

Please keep summer learning alive during July and August!

Enjoy reading aloud to your child, a family book club, visiting the local library, listening to audio books, or inviting your child to bring a book of their choice to the beach this summer.
Keep math thinking active by having your child make change at the grocery store, count shells at the beach, or notice geometric shapes in the world around us.
Consider having your child keep a writing journal of daily adventures or creative stories. If your child will be away at camp or on a trip, have your child write letters or postcards to family and friends.

Here are some resources to help you and your family engage in summer learning…

K-5 Elementary Student Workbooks:

As your children bring home their school supplies, you will also receive your child’s student workbooks from the school year. These workbooks represent a rich resource for additional practice. If you wish, your child can use these pages over the summer to reinforce what they have learned throughout the year and keep their literacy and math skills sharp.

You will find that your child's workbooks contain unused pages, and we want to provide some context for this. Our curriculum has many games, activities and practice opportunities—far more than can typically be used within the classroom time available during the school year. At times, other forms of practice, such as displaying work on personalized whiteboards, in composition notebooks, or through interactive discussions and games, provide students with multiple means to practice and demonstrate their understanding of skills being learned in the classroom.

This comprehensive approach ensures that we can tailor our teaching to our student's specific needs and progress, focusing on depth of understanding and mastery of critical concepts.

K-12 Literacy Update:

This year, our students continued to make tremendous progress developing their skills as readers, writers, listeners and speakers. They dove deep into new texts, shared reading experiences, researched topics, developed their work recognition skills, and expanded their language comprehension. They learned new vocabulary words, participated in Socratic Seminars, and debated themes and perspectives. Here are some resources to support literacy learning this summer:

K-5 Mathematics Update:

Students continue to deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts and skills through our Bridges in Mathematics curriculum in our K-5 elementary classrooms. The Bridges Math Learning Center offers a variety of additional digital resources that your child can use for learning over the summer:

Bridges Practice Books: These books in English and Spanish provide extra problems and exercises to reinforce learning. They also include an answer key.
Math at Home: A collection of resources including games, activities, and videos designed to make math learning enjoyable and accessible at home.
Free Math Apps: The Math Learning Center offers several free apps that help students visualize, understand, and practice math skills in engaging ways. These are available for both iOS and Android devices.
Bridges Family Support: Resources specifically designed for families to support their children's math learning, including guides and tips for helping with homework.
