Fox Lane High School Theater Department

Tom Slot teaches the acting and technical theater courses at Fox Lane High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts and his Master of Education from Loyola University of Maryland, and his Masters of Fine Arts in Acting from Columbia University studying with Andrei Serban, Kristin Linklater, and Ann Bogart.

Tom has been teaching at the high school and college level since 2001. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at Teachers College at Columbia University and Queens College. Prior to coming to Fox Lane, Tom taught theater at the Queens School of Inquiry for six years and at Overlea High School in Baltimore, Maryland before that. He ran the drama programs at both schools and directed students productions of Almost Maine, Oedipus, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Bye Bye Birdie, and Once Upon a Mattress among other shows. Tom has been active in the NYC indie theater scene since 2006 as a playwright, actor, director, and producer. His plays and musicals have appeared Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway, internationally, and in regional theaters. Tom's one act play Reimagining Oedipus was published in the anthology Freshwater Goes Back to High School and several of his full length works are published on Indie Theater Now. Recently his play, The Girls of Ward 3, received the Excellence in Playwriting Award in the 2015 Newborn Festival. Memorable acting roles include Sebastian (The Tempest / Folkwant Academy International Shakespeare Festival, Essen Germany); and Nikos (Big Love / Setkani Encounter Festival, Brno, Czech Republic). Tom Slot currently serves as the artistic director for Original Binding Productions.

 

Rob Martin is the Theater Manager for the Fox Land High School Mary Lou Meese Theater. He has been with the Bedford Central School District since January of 2013. A graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design and Technology, he has served on the staff of theaters from Florida to Maine. Along the way he served as a lighting designer for Busch Gardens, technical director for the Virginia Shakespeare Festival and production coordinator for the University of South Florida among others. Rob spent over a decade as a theater technician for companies as varied as Washington's treasured Folger Shakespeare Theater and the historic Cutler Majestic Theater in Boston. In Bedford, Rob is the point person for all aspects of theater booking, technology and rental needs.
