Summer Assignment: Fill a Sketchbook

Practice, experimentation and revision are essential components of a Sustained Investigation. Students have reported that the most challenging part of the Sustained Investigation is developing the ideas and questions to pursue. Therefore, you will spend the summer developing possible ideas for inquiry. You will brainstorm a minimum of 20 possible sustained investigation ideas.

Buy a sketchbook around 5" x 8" (minimum 50 pages) and fill it with at least 20 spreads (2 pages facing each other) this summer. This can include written thought/observations, planning, and documenting sources of inspiration, in addition to drawings/explorations. Please see the sketchbook examples to understand the thinking and use of the space in the book. Not only will this help you with your AP work next year, it will be the first thing you show to colleges--they LOVE to see sketchbooks because it allows them to see the thinking of the artist.

You will bring this in to school on the first day.  At any point during the summer, you can email me for feedback.
