BCSD Board of Education Announces Next Superintendent
The Bedford Central School District Board of Education is pleased to announce the upcoming appointment of Dr. Robert J. Glass as our next Superintendent of Schools. The Board is finalizing contract negotiations with Dr. Glass and expects him to assume the role of Superintendent on July 1, 2022, when Dr. Joel Adelberg retires as Superintendent.
"We are excited to announce the upcoming appointment of Dr. Glass as our next Superintendent of Schools,” said Board of Education President John Boucher. “Our decision was guided by the leadership profile that was created from the results of community and staff forums, focus groups and a community survey, and we believe Rob is a great fit for Bedford.”
Dr. Glass is currently serving as Superintendent in the Eastchester Union Free School District, where he has focused on working with the community to build a strategic vision for the future of teaching and learning while also leading his district to a successful bond referendum.
Prior to his time in Eastchester, Dr. Glass served for nine years as the Superintendent of Bloomfield Hills Schools in suburban Detroit. While in Bloomfield Hills, Dr. Glass engaged the community to build consensus around the design and construction of an innovative high school model. Dr. Glass and his team also championed staff development around diversity, equity and inclusion. He was named Michigan Superintendent of the Year in 2017 by the Michigan Association of School Administrators.
Dr. Glass holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Oakland University, an MA in Education Administration from Central Michigan University, an MAT in Teaching from Wayne State University, and a BA in Telecommunication from Michigan State University. Dr. Glass began his career teaching fourth and fifth grade before becoming an elementary principal and Executive Director of Instruction.
The Board of Education selected Dr. Glass after a comprehensive, nationwide search considering a diverse group of candidates. The process was supported by the search firm Hazard, Young, Attea Associates.
“Guided by the community’s input at the onset of the search process, it was clear that our next leader needed to have a strong track record of success in developing a vision, unifying all stakeholders in developing strategic planning and inspiring academic success across an array of interests,” commented Board of Education Vice President Ed Reder, adding, “Throughout our interviews, Dr. Glass continually impressed the Board with his leadership traits, past success, and thoughtful manner in bringing together each community he has served.”
The Board will share plans and dates to introduce Dr. Glass into our community in the coming months, offering several opportunities for early engagement with the next leader of the Bedford Central Schools.
