Bedford Central School District is committed to providing a safe environment for students, staff and visitors. We work closely with local law enforcement, Fire and EMS to ensure that our schools are well-prepared in the event of an emergency.
Each school conducts regular drills (including four lockdown and eight evacuation drills annually) to help students and staff prepare for possible emergencies.
In addition to our overarching Safety Plan, the district has:
- Building security plans
- Security consultant (Altaris)
- Half-time Security Coordinator on site
- Full-time School Resource Officer
- Safety monitors
- Layered measures: Security vestibules, cameras, alarms, threat assessment teams
During this summer and fall, a Safety and Security Task Force was convened to gain an understanding of school safety and security in the district, discover best practices in school safety from safety experts, explore best mental health practices for school-aged children and identify and prioritize recommendations that were recently provided in a summary report to the Superintendent and Board of Education.
The Task Force identified improvement opportunities which will be considered by the administration for inclusion in the 2023-24 budget process.
