Bedford Central School District Aims to Champion Excellence
The 2026-27 school year kicked off with an energetic Superintendent’s Conference Day

Before students returned to our hallways this week, Bedford Central School District faculty and staff gathered to celebrate the start of the 2026-2027 school year during Superintendent’s Conference Day. The spirited districtwide kickoff started in Fox Lane High School’s Mary Lou Meese Theater with what can best be described as a pep rally for faculty and staff.
“At the beginning of each school year, we typically select a focused theme to introduce on this day,” Superintendent Dr. Rob Glass told the crowd. “This year, with the New York Knicks winning the NBA Finals in grand fashion, and with New York City having the honor of hosting the FIFA World Cup Final game, we thought it fitting to incorporate the idea of a world championship into this year’s theme, which is: ‘Champion excellence through active, connected learning.’”

To build on that theme and the spirit of teamwork, district leaders incorporated some friendly competition into the kick-off ceremony. Elementary, secondary and district office teams competed against each other in “Minute to Win It” games that had the crowd cheering loudly for their colleagues. While the games were being played, the Bedford Company Band (made up of Music & Performing Arts Coordinator Matt Vanacoro and music teachers Rob Davies, Bryan Filetto, Sarah Matthews, Joe Bergamini and Brian Sanyshyn) kept the energy high. In the end, the district office team brought home the trophy.
“If that performance proved anything, it’s that Bedford Central doesn't just participate—we compete, we adapt, and we bring home the trophy!” said Adam Lodewick, the game’s emcee and the Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics. “That was absolute championship-level focus and adaptability right out of the gate.”

Dr. Glass closed out the kickoff with some words of encouragement.
“Championship teams don't win trophies by sitting on the sidelines or running solo plays. They win through relentless energy, total trust, and seamless coordination,” he said. “Championship cultures are built in the daily drills, the quiet hallway check-ins, and the collective commitment to lift every learner up. When we pair high expectations with deep connection, there is no limit to what our students can achieve. Every lesson plan, every bus ride, every warm meal, and every encouraging word is a play designed to help our kids win the day. So, as we open this season, let’s bring that championship mindset every single day. Stay active, stay connected, support your teammates on your left and right, and let’s set the standard for what a school district can accomplish.”
