Fox Friday: Fox Lane’s Caileigh Waters Receives the 2026 St. Vincent's Youth Award
Winners were chosen for their extraordinary volunteer service
Fox Friday is a series that highlights the accomplishments of students districtwide. We regularly feature the incredible things our students are up to — whether they are excelling academically, athletically or are quietly impressive.
Fox Lane junior Caileigh Waters has been named a 2026 St. Vincent's Youth Award recipient. Caileigh is one of 20 local high school students recognized by St. Vincent’s Hospital for exceptional volunteer service. Presented each year by the hospital's Auxiliary, the award honors students whose volunteer service embodies the organization's core values of respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence.
Caileigh has spent more than 250 hours of her time volunteering. We spoke to her about her experience to try to learn more about how it has shaped her as an individual.
You can also read her award-winning essay (which was part of the selection process).

What did you have to do to be eligible for this award?
I qualified by having over 50 hours of community service. I currently have over 200 hours.
What inspired you to start volunteering?
I started volunteering at my church when I had to make confirmation, and that really started my passion for volunteering.
Where have you volunteered and what did a typical day/shift/event look like?
I have volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester and St. Francis of Assisi. At Boys and Girls Club, I learned leadership skills and worked with 25 chaotic first graders. At St. Francis, I helped with “Jesus time,” (when we sit with the young kids and teach them what is going on in mass in a simplified way) and setting up for coffee and bagel hour.
What has been your favorite part about the experience(s)?
My favorite part of my experience has been getting to know the people in my community. When I show up, I am the quietest person you will ever meet. You may not notice me, but you will notice my work.
Why is community service important to you?
Community service is important to me because it helps me make great connections with people and shows me that great things happen when you support your community.
Are there any skills that you learned while volunteering that have helped you out with schoolwork?
Volunteering has taught me to be patient and not rush things because when you rush things, you don't notice every little detail.
Do you see volunteering as a part of your future?
I see volunteering as a part of my life because it has helped me make unique connections and has helped me become more open to trying new things.
Is there anything else you think community members should know?
My community should know that whenever they need help, I will show up. You never know when the most unexpected opportunities are going to come your way, you just have to show up and be ready.
