Pound Ridge Senior Citizens Attend Annual PRES Luncheon

“Did you do any of these compositions on the wall here?” a senior citizen asked a Pound Ridge Elementary School third grader who was escorting her down the hall.

A few minutes later, another third grader could be heard talking to a senior about his school day.

“We had library today, and we were learning about technology,” he said.

Conversations like these are exactly what makes PRES’s annual Senior Luncheon so special.

“This is one of my favorite events every year,” Principal Dr. Stephanie Bell told the seniors once they all sat down. “Some of you might not know that I’m a Fox Lane High School graduate. There are some people in this room whose children I went to school with!”

Each year, the entire school is involved in making the event special for Pound Ridge senior citizens. This year, kindergarteners created placemats, first graders made centerpieces, second graders performed songs from a play they are rehearsing, third graders escorted guests to the room, fourth- and fifth-grade chorus sang and fifth grader Otis Roberts played a piece on his trumpet that he will perform at a New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) competition.

As seniors chatted with one another, it was clear they were having a good time.

“Remember the days when you were in elementary school?”

“That song is going to resonate in my head for a long time!”

“This reminds me of Mr. Rogers!”

The seniors also enjoyed a delicious lunch thanks to the generosity of the PRES PTA.
