Three Bedford Central School District Staff Members Take Home the First Impact Awards

connectED, a Bedford Central School District parent-teacher organization which focuses on building community, connection, and inclusion for students with diverse learning needs and abilities, presented its first Impact Awards at the last Board of Education meeting of the school year.

The awards were created to honor BCSD faculty and staff whose work helps students feel valued, supported, and fully part of school life. This year, connectED received more than 150 nomination submissions across three categories. Each nomination told a story of care, creativity, patience, connection, and meaningful impact.

The Belonging in Action Award was presented to Nicole Regan, Teaching Assistant at Fox Lane High School.

Nicole was recognized for her extraordinary work with the Best Buddies club and for helping create meaningful opportunities for students of all abilities to participate in school life. Her nominators described her as a true change maker whose leadership has helped grow the club, expand inclusive events, and make belonging visible and joyful. From building partnerships with varsity athletic teams to creating inclusive events like a fashion show, Nicole has helped students feel seen, welcomed, and connected across the Fox Lane community.

The Student Growth Champion Award was presented to Nicole Gillespie, Special Education Teacher at Bedford Village Elementary School.

Nicole was recognized for creating meaningful, accessible, and engaging learning experiences for her students. Her nominators described her as creative, dynamic, and deeply committed to helping students build confidence, independence, curiosity, and joy in learning. In her 8:1:3 classroom, Nicole brings student interests into instruction, uses neuro-affirming approaches, and creates thoughtful systems of support that meet students where they are while helping them grow.

The Partnership Matters Award was presented to Jessica Stern, Psychologist at Pound Ridge Elementary School.

Jessica was recognized for the strong, trusting partnerships she builds with students, families, and colleagues. Her nominators described her as compassionate, accessible, and deeply committed to helping families feel heard and supported. Through monthly check-ins, thoughtful conversations, and a willingness to make time whenever support is needed, Jessica helps create a positive school experience where students feel understood, encouraged, and successful.
