The BCSD Board Meeting Brief is designed to be a quick, high-level rundown of Bedford Central School District’s Board of Education meetings. While the full information is always available to the public on BoardDocs, we know you’re busy and we want to deliver an easily digestible overview of each of our meetings.

  • District Presentations
    • External Audit Report: Bonadio Group
      • The Board accepted the audited BCSD Financial Statements and Extraclassroom Activity Funds Statements for the year that ended on June 30, 2025
      • The board accepted the 2025 Risk Assessment and Corrective Action Plan for fiscal year ending 6/30/25 conducted by Nawrocki Smith, LLP
  • Student Announcements
    • Juniors and some sophomores took the PSAT and the rest of the high schoolers had a four-hour delay on Wednesday
    • There is an open mic at the Bedford Hills Community House on October 11 from 6 to 9pm. The theme is “What Does Mental Health Mean to You?” Students are encouraged to attend and share their art, voice, or stories
    • o  Youth in Action club is sponsoring a Powder Puff flag football game on Saturday, October 18 at 3:30 to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. You can sign up to participate or come and watch to support!
  • Board Announcements
    • The Board thanked Michelle Brooks for organizing Fox Night. A new leader will be needed going forward
  • Superintendent Announcements
    • Later School Start Time Feasibility Workgroup
      • First meeting was this week. They reviewed various transportation scenarios, including a two-tier system. Members engaged in strong dialogue and clear analysis (learn some background information here)
      • Three additional committee meetings are planned; meeting in January to finalize two options and outline challenges
      • The committee will gather research before the next meeting by visiting or surveying other districts, reviewing athletic schedules and relationships, and identifying opportunities or additional data needs
    • Fox Night had excellent attendance
    • Dr. Glass has been attending faculty meetings in each of the buildings
    • Recent safety drills were conducted successfully, reflecting strong operational execution
    • Joe Starace, new Safety Coordinator, started on October 1
    • 15 Minute Early Dismissal Friday, October 10th
    • Monday, October 13, the District is closed for Columbus/Indigenous People’s Day
  • Policy Updates
    • 5230 Acceptance of Gifts, Grants and Bequests to the District
      • Minor language changes
    • 7130 Entitlement to Attend - Age and Residency
      • Updated language for students with IEP’s to attend though and up until the day before they turn 22
    • 7240 Student Directory/records
      • This policy was reviewed and adopted in June; an amendment was added to include class lists in limited directory information
  • Old Business
    • The Board approved moving forward with participation in Regionalization Planning (learn some background information)
    • The Board did not approve the CoSer with BOCES for participation in the Northwell Mental Health Clinic
  • New Business
    • Discussion about THRIVE Board Representative
      • This role will serve as a much-needed high level link to the school systems. The representative will help THRIVE (a local substance abuse prevention and mental health alliance) better understand the needs, areas for potential collaboration, and means of reaching and including parents, teachers, students, and school groups in what we do and in potential joint efforts
      • Board members discussed the difficulty of meetings held on Wednesday evenings, same as Board meetings; a suggestion was made to ask a BCSD Admin to take on the role; Dr. Glass felt that this was a big ask right now with little information; Ms. Lowry offered to attend the next meeting to get more information about what the expectations are and will report back
