Fox Lane High School’s Alexandra De Palma Selected for NYSSMA All-State Mixed Chorus
Fox Lane High School senior Alexandra De Palma has been selected to participate in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Mixed Chorus. Alexandra received this honor due to her exemplary performance at the Spring 2019 solo festival.
“Ally is truly an exemplary Fox Lane musician having participated in nearly every aspect of performing arts we offer, from musicals to orchestra,” said the district’s Performing Arts Department Coordinator Matt Vanacoro.
A well-rounded musician, Alexandra performs as a soprano in the Chamber Choir and plays violin in the Chamber Orchestra. She describes her reaction to the news as “shocked and thrilled.”
“I never anticipated this. I was very taken aback,” she said humbly. “I just want to thank Mr. Reisert, who always encouraged me and challenged me to go beyond what I thought was possible. Without him, I never would have been able to receive such a great honor.”
Alexandra has been passionate about music from a young age.
“I always really loved all types of music, and still do,” she said. “But my love for more classical pieces definitely came from my school training. Being a choir student gave me an entirely new appreciation for fine music.”
Music has brought Alexandra a lot of joy in life and one of her favorite school-related musical memories centers on bringing that joy to others. Around the holidays, choral teacher Edward Reisert takes the choir to sing for nurses and families in hospice.
“It's a great way to give back to the amazing people who put so much time, effort, and love into helping those who need hospice care,” Alexandra said. “That event always brings me so much joy, and reminds me to thank my loved ones for all they do for me in my life.”
NYSSMA will be organizing a Virtual All-State Concert in the coming months with selected students across New York State.
