For the eighth year in a row, Bedford Central School District has received the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation (the philanthropic arm of the National Association of Music Merchants) for its outstanding commitment to music education.

This designation is awarded to districts demonstrating outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify, the district had to answer questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities and support for music programs.

“In these trying times, it is refreshing to hear of this honor,” stated Peter J. Griffin, the K-12 Coordinator for the Performing Arts. “This recognition is a true testament to the continued and ongoing commitment and passion that our students, staff and parents display each and every day for music and the arts. The hard work, dedication and creativity of our arts teachers and specialists are the driving force for the musical achievements of our kids in making Bedford one of the top communities in the nation for music education.”

The award recognizes that the district continues to lead the way in music education, providing a high-quality program as part of a well-rounded education.

“Music education is an important part of a students’ comprehensive educational experience, as well as a vital piece of their social, emotional learning (SEL). In addition to the SEL skills that music education embraces, other skills such as language and reasoning, increased coordination, school engagement, a sense of achievement, pattern recognition, working in and as a team and creative thinking benefit the students in better preparing them for the opportunities of the 21st century,” states Griffin. “Bedford is a very special place where we care about each and every child, not only for their academic and artistic achievements, but for their social and emotional well-being.”
