examples of student work, we can help students improve their own writing. We also believe that students, through writing, will become better thinkers, communicators and citizens.

Our hope is that students, parents and the community as a whole will better understand our rubrics and what
we mean by a paper that “meets expectations” or “approaches expectations” or is considered “advanced.”
The writings selected demonstrate the range of success across different assignments that students encounter
in an English class at Fox Lane. Along with each writing is a completed rubric that indicates the strengths and
areas for improvements of that particular piece.
