CIVILITY POLICY GUIDING PRINCIPLE --------------------------------------------------------

It is the intent of the Board of Education to establish a culture and practice of civility in all schools and school-related settings, communications, and operations. Informed debate, healthy dialogue, disagreements, and informed public opinion are to be expected and are accepted forms of interaction in a democratic society. Disruptive, volatile, hostile, and maligning communications or aggressive, mean spirited actions are not accepted nor are forms of inappropriate interactions.

Purpose:
It is the intent of the Board of Education to promote mutual respect, civility, and orderly conduct of district employees, contracted personnel, those serving in an official school district capacity, students, parents, and the public.

While protecting the right to freedom of expression, the intent of the policy is to maintain, to the greatest extent reasonably possible, a safe, harassment-free environment.

Expectations:
Bedford Central School District employees, contracted personnel, and those serving in an official school district capacity are expected to treat students, parents, visitors, other staff members, and members of the public with courtesy, civility, and respect. 

Parents, students, visitors, and members of the public are expected to treat teachers, school administrators, all school employees, contracted personnel, and those serving in an official school district capacity with courtesy, civility, and respect. Disruptive, volatile, hostile, aggressive, mean spirited and maligning communications or actions are not accepted nor are forms of inappropriate interactions.
